I’m Hannah — a writer and Creative Writing professor in central Florida. I moved to Florida at 18 to pursue my education and never left. As a “transplant” to this beautiful state, I had to learn a whole new set of nature rules that were incongruent with my Pennsylvanian upbringing. I now know what to do when encountering an alligator and can identify a whole new category of insects.
Even still, I have never quite grown accustomed to the wild beauty of the Florida landscape with its tropical flowers and basket-woven tree roots or the magic of waking up to an entire flock of ibis birds in my front yard. And I hope I never do! Florida inspires me daily to stay curious and expect the unexpected.
I finished my master’s degree in English and Creative Writing in the spring of 2017 and began teaching my first class that fall as an adjunct. In summer 2018, I was hired to teach English Comp and Creative Writing full time. I am passionate about instilling a love of reading and writing in my students and feel so blessed that I get to learn with them every week.
When I’m not writing or grading papers, I can be found hiking trails with my husband Daniel, working on my MFA at the University of Tampa, or snuggled up with a good book and my boxer Big Boy.
